Photonex & Silicon photonics adoption in UK industry - impact by collaboration

11-12 October 2017, Ricoh Arena, Coventry UK
Photonex - visit stand IL01

Photonex is the UK's largest exhibition of photonics and light technologies. Held at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, the event provides users of light technologies the opportunity to meet with suppliers across the spectrum of photonics.

This year, the Optoelectronics Research Centre team will be based in the Innovation Live! area, stand IL01, showcasing our latest research and on hand to discuss potential collaborations and joint projects. They will also be launching the Future Photonics Hub Innovation Fund call for 2017/18. This is the second call from the EPSRC-funded future manufacturing research Hub led by the ORC. Further details will be available from 11 October 2017 on the Future Photonics Hub website.

Silicon photonics adoption in UK industry - impact by collaboration: Enlighten meeting

Silicon Photonics is a rapidly evolving research field that has attracted considerable interest recently from both academia and the semiconductor industry. With the assistance of research funding for photonics technologies under the auspices of the Photonics for Future Systems programme and the Future Photonics Hub, considerable progress has been made in design, characterisation, and manufacture of photonic-electronic integrated circuits (PIC). Many devices and applications could benefit from silicon photonics technology. This one-day conference on Wednesday 11 October focuses on recent developments and new opportunities for UK industry. Of importance to attendees at this event is the adoption of silicon photonics – how can academia assist industry to benefit from silicon photonics in new devices and systems?

Led by a team from the Optoelectronics Research Centre (University of Southampton), this free event features contributions from key research groups around the UK, with the involvement of companies currently adopting silicon photonics technologies. It comprises a programme of invited speakers and a poster session, and will allow time for delegates to network with others and to visit the the Photonex exhibition.

Speakers include:

  • Dr Andrew Rickman - Rockley Photonics
  • Prof Huiyan Liu - UCL, UK
  • Richard Pitwon - Seagate, UK
  • Prof Diana Huffaker - University of Cardiff
  • Dr John Lincoln - Photonics Leadership Group/Future Photonics Hub
  • Dr Stevan Stankovic - University of Southampton

Abstracts are invited for poster presentations which will be peer reviewed and accepted on the basis of technical merit.
